Meet the Claytons

This is Billy if you knew him pre-2001. When he got back from his mission, he decided going by Billy wasn't the best way to have the world take him seriously. Meet Will. With four sisters, he couldn't help but develop a sensitive side but don't let that fool you. He's tenacious not only on the volleyball court but in everything he does.

The first thing Will told me about his dad: "He's a big ball of love." It didn't take long for me to figure out what he meant by that. Weath spends his time taking care of pregnant women (he's an OB), members of the LDS Church in the Newport Beach area (he's the stake president) and everyone in between. It's no wonder that come Friday night, he's often found konked out on the family room couch.

Will jokes that he's his mom's favorite child. One thing is for sure: they share a special bond. He says she went to every single sporting event he ever played in (and if you know Will, that amounts to a lot). Now that she's got some time to herself, she's pursuing a graduate degree. We're impressed.

Yes, they really are that strong. Presenting Will's four sisters. Madeleine (far left), is the eldest and mother of Clayton, Anna, Chase and Eliza. She's. Laura (to the immediate left of Will) is a sophomore at BYU and has more pictures on her Facebook page than anyone I've ever met. M.E. has an insane amount of energy--not only did she run a marathon last spring but I'm pretty sure she has been to at least a dozen countries in the last 12 months. And Elizabeth (far right), is just about to say sianara to Provo and take a degree in Communications with her.

Will thinks Andy looks like the Ken doll (you know, Barbie's boyfriend). I might have to agree. California born and bred, he played water polo at Stanford where he met Will's sister, Madeleine. In just 8 short years, they've produced four little ones (Clayton, Anna, Chase and Eliza)--not a bad record.

White House Christmas Party

Lest you think we're cooler than we actually are, keep in mind that there are at least a dozen White House Christmas parties. Still, we were pretty excited to be invited to one.

Our path: Enter east wing, walk down the First Lady's Hall, scan the titles in the library, ascend the staircase to the East Room and sample an exquisite display of food, chat with co-workers, try out some of the (very old) furniture in the Red Room, admire the White House Christmas tree in the Blue Room, sample another exquisite display of food in the State Dining Room, pause in the foyer to listen to the military band play Christmas music, descend the staircase, have picture taken with President and Mrs. Bush, exit east wing.

When Mrs. Bush introduced us to the President, she mentioned that Will was a student at Yale Law School to which he replied, "Not a lot of people who think like we do up there." Will and I paused and looked at each other, unsure of what he was alluding to. A few seconds passed. It registered with Will and he replied, "Yeah, got to be careful who you share your thoughts with." Phew. A potentially awkward moment averted. Thanks Will.
